A New Tree Grows in Roebuck

What do you get a man who is turning 60? Charlie, believe it not, turned 60 this summer and he is very hard to buy for.  So, since he is from New Orleans and loves Magnolia trees, his daughter Megan and her family and our family bought him one.  July is not a great time in South Carolina to plant a Magnolia tree so here is what we gave him..

We shoved a shovel into the ground with a photo of a Magnolia tree on it with a gift card to a local nursery below that .  That is Megan on Charlie's left, Vinny on his right and Patrick behind Vinny.  We took him blindfolded to the spot where he might want to plant it. His first reaction was, "You bought me a shovel?".  Here he is being led to the spot by Megan and Vinny..

So, after we asked him what the photo was, he finally caught on.  A few weeks ago he was able to pick up his beloved tree.  We changed the planting spot from behind the pool to in front of the pool.  This way we can see it better.  Unfortunately we could not afford to pay someone to plant it for him.  So, here is the 60 year old man planting his tree.

And the tree still stands and we cannot wait for it to bloom in the spring!
