I know, it is December and I am finally posting about Thanksgiving. It is hard to keep up this blog when no one reads it.
So, Thanksgiving was going to be just the 5 of us which is fun and yet I hate cooking on a normal day let alone Thanksgiving. Charlie will eat anything, Vinny is getting much better and ate everything this year, Mitchell ate everything except the mash potatoes, and then there is Patrick. I swear, he must be the pickiest eater in the world. He ate some turkey and tasted the stuffing and the sweet potatoes and that was it.
Back to the preparations. I was inspired this year by my step-daughter Megan who is a fantastic cook. She cooks everything from scratch and I mean everything. Now, I always make my mashed potatoes from scratch and my stuffing with the exception of the bread crumbs. So, this year I decided to make the bread crumbs from scratch, it helped that the store was sold out. We decided not to do a whole turkey and just do a small turkey breast. The great thing about this year was my little helper.
Here's Vinny cutting up the bread cubes. It was nice making them from scratch because there were no crumbs which meant no mushy stuffing.
A little taste test.
Potatoes and Sweet potatoes cooking.
Vinny mashing the potatoes.
Here she is getting the sweet potatoes ready.
Lots of butter and lots of brown sugar. Yummy!
Vinny thought it was a good idea to make a "TO DO" list. A girl after my own heart. It was great getting all of this done on Wednesday so we could enjoy our day on Thursday and not be too rushed.
You will see #8 is Make pudding/ assemble pies. I asked the kids what they wanted for desert and they requested Chocolate Cream pies. Charlie had bought himself a Fruit cake so he was taken care of. Chocolate Cream pie is very easy and for the first time I did make my own whip cream from scratch. It was the best!
Next post will be on dinner.
